Photos and Edited Photos

Photos

This image I have taken here is of Connor James one of the stars of my magazine Pop Viva. This image will be used on the front cover of Pop Viva. The type of camera shot I have taken here is a medium close up which means that the subject of the photo is focusing on the mid-chest upwards. In this particular shot the focus is of Connor's facial features and the hood he is wearing on his head. Here this is used to create the key mood and atmosphere of the image. I decided to use a medium close up shot because my focus is of Connor's facial expressions and the key features surrounding his head. Also the background is used to outline the person's body. The impact of this image on the audience is that the person is staring directly straight into the camera lenses with a very serious look on his face which creates a image of the pop star is serious about his career as a performer. This type of shot is best for a music magazine as it catches the attention more of the audience. This image would feature on the front cover, but as not the important as otherwise the person would be posing in a more symbolic way. The facial expression is very serious as this shows a straight face. The mise-en-scene is used very simply as the image is of still life where the person isn't moving. The arrangement is very basic but it is effective. The background is a brick wall which hints that the performer is trying to create a more rougher, edgier image for himself. This links very well with the costume of wearing a black hoody, and a V-neck T-shirt. This shows that the genre of music this performer comes from is a hip-hop background but with a hint of pop. Otherwise if I was producing a R'n'B magazine the hood would be fully over the performers fringe. For this photograph I could of improved it by using a more suitable background to relate to my performers and the genre of the magazine. This is presented here is what it looks like before it is has been photo shopped! The after effect is yet to come.

Again here I have a image of Connor James one of the stars of Pop Viva in this issue. This image will be used in the contents page of my magazine as the image is very positive and cheery, which will encourage the audience to turn over the page to read on about this artist. The facial expression here is important, otherwise if the image looked pessimistic it would present an negative image which might put off the target audience buying the magazine. For this shot I used a medium close up shot as I wanted to slightly replicate the front cover image of this artist. I think that for both the front cover and contents page it is more effective to a have medium close up shot as it is easier then to relate to the audience. The effect of this image is that it should be shown from the chest upwards as that is the main focus. As the main focus of this image is the facial expression of the artist. The large smile the artist is showing highlights a happy impression he is conveying to the target audience. He is also looking straight and directly into the camera to give his full attention to give a large attention span. So this would be a straight on shot. The smile positively shows joy and is showing its more powerful than the impact of the hoody worn by the artist which is a strong, deep colour that isn't quite strong enough for the smile. The mise-en-scene has been constructed to consider the type of lighting I have used which is natural light with a cloudy atmosphere giving a light shadow to create this amount of lighting for the image. Again with the mise-en-scene is no different to the previous image that has been taken, also both of the images has been taken in a landscape length. This image and the other image above is unique and natural as they are both practical images that have just purely been taken and not manipulated via photoshop. These images are not needed to be manipulated as the quality and detail of them are already suitable for the magazine.

Here this is the original image of the image that I will be using the magazine below. I chose to take a full length body shot as it shows the true shape of the star. I felt it will emphasise the image that she conveys through her body language such as her hand leaning on the side of the head. The angle that I took is just off a direct straight shot. This shows the person's is looking almost directly into the camera. I could of improved this shot by taking a more close up shot to emphasise the body language. The mise-en-scene in includes colour. The use of colour wasn't used very well as the dull grey colour makes the whole image seem a lot more darker than it should be. Also the grey more blends in with the blue from the door in the background. A more brighter colour would of contrasted better. The brown from the boots is the only good use of colour as it contrasts with the clothing that the person is wearing. The background doesn't contrast well with the implication for a Pop magazine, so to create a more Pop-like background there needs to have more of a relevant background. So a way to improve the mise-en-scene of the whole image in general would be to crop the image to focus more on the person rather than the background as well otherwise the person is too much a part of the background instead of being the centre of attention.
This image here I have selected will be displayed and used as the cover image. This photo is also the edited, unoriginal version of the image that is featured above it has been edited via Photoshop. So the person I have chosen on the image is April Jones, the X Factor winner (not the real winner my made up person). I chose for this image to take a close up shot to create the most impact on the person's face. The cover image job is to create the most impact on the target audience to encourage them to purchase the magazine. The amount of mega pixels on the camera affects the quality of the shot to see the most detail. Here there are 8 mega pixels, which gives a high quality image to highlight the key features on this image. The type of angle I decided to take was a straight on shot like on the preminlary task to give the cover star the most direct shot to look directly straight at the camera. This camera shot is a full length shot as
the shot has taken a photo of the full length of the person in the shot. So the main focus of the shot is April Jones mainly on her facial expression towards the direction of the camera. The type of facial expression the student is conveying is they are just a few degrees off facing directly straight at the camera. The expression is a slight grin, that includes a slight serious stare towards the camera, the slight expressions that are cheery meet the criteria of a pop magazine. If the expressions were more daring and serious this would give a more edgy look, like for a quirky alternative genre like a alternative rock. Also the clothing that she wears implies what could represent a style icon in the eyes of young girls. Also as this is a pop magazine and a low angle shot wouldn't be appropriate as they can look intimidating and may give the wrong implication to the young audience also they could look scary and they may only be suitable for more quirkier genres such as indie and alternative rock. The mise-en-scene of this image shows that it is of still life, I have edited this photo on photoshop to create a different effect with improving the background, also changing the brightness and the contrast of the image to suit the criteria for a pop, bright happy magazine. Firstly I edited the lighting, as originally the image was very dull, and need brightening up so I chose to brighten up the image, the effect it has had is that on April Jones face it highlights and brightens her skin to make it have a natural, healthy looking glow. Also the clothing that is worn, it also brightened up by giving the tone of the colour which makes the image look of a higher standard of quality. The grey cardigan that is worn, reflects off the skin colour by giving April Jones a more natural sun tan. I chose tan coloured boots, blue leggings and a grey cardigan as I think that they represent a new sort of style that is needed in the pop genre industry. These items of clothing are not specific to a type of genre so I thought a mixture of these items would represent Pop as Pop represents a mixture of different types of music that is influenced. Also I think a fresh new image is great as April Jones has just started off her pop career so a new start works well with a new image. So this links in the setting of my image, I chose to photo shop the background so I could get a fresh idea of what to choose. I chose a plain green, blue setting to give the target audience the idea that the photo shoot had taken place in a professional studio, also the colour green represents the colour of grass which could imply the scent of grass, which is 'freshly' cut. The use of colour in this image would be conveyed by the background contrasting well with the person used. I think the background colour works especially well with the leather boots that are presented in a dark tan colour, the colours bounce off each other well which gives a positive effect in the image otherwise they would clash and do the opposite. I think the grey colour from the cardigan and the tone of blue from the leggings work well as they are similar in colour and show that they can blend well against each other. I could of improved this image by including a more life like setting that was appropriate to the issue's theme. Also I could of had the student posing in a certain position for every single shot like covering up one eye to create an exclusive edition to Pop Viva magazine.

I have chosen this image here to be displayed in my contents page. Here it is a photo of the cover star April Jones, this image will feature as a smaller image on the contents page unlike a full page image like on the front cover. For this image here I have chosen to use a shot called medium close up. So the subject of this photo is to been seen from the mid-chest up. The angle that I used for this was a direct straight on shot. This shot would show that the audience would view the student as looking directly at the camera with plenty of interest in the concentration that is shown in this image given by the student. The mise-en-scene of the image has a very noticeable background colour of a pea green colour. The flowery pattern that is featured on the person's scarf contrasts well with the green background as flowers relate well to grass as they are normally associated with them. Also the background colour enhances, the rich colour of the person's dark brown hair colour. The colour doesn't clash or get in the way in the shot the two colour's bounce and reflect off each other. The grey cardigan that is warn by April Jones, give her appearance a very clear cut image, with symbolises a neutral way of toning down the flowery blouse. A way to improve the photograph would maybe to have a more realistic background, than by being in a real environment instead of using a photo- shopped background.

This image here that is presented is featured on my front cover page, the image is of mini Haribo Starmix. The size of the image would be fairly small on the cover about thumbnail size, as it is not the main feature on the page. The actual camera shot of the Haribo is to be shown as a full close up position. So then this conveys that the whole photo is fully directed at the whole Haribo packet instead of a certain part that is specific. The type of angle that I used for taking this shot was a straight on shot. This type of shot is most easiest and relevant to a Pop genre magazine as the young target audience under 13 may fail to understand why an image maybe taken from a different angle such as a low angle, as the content maybe presenting information from an odd angle from what they are used to. The use of mise-en-scene in the image is very basic as the arrangement is very flat packed onto the background looking very 2D, which is not a realistic. The only thing that could really effect the mise-en-scene in this particular image would be that the image of is practically a packet of sweets. So this would present that the food is a prop that is the only feature in the image. So the arrangement around the page is that it is presented in the centre, which is surrounded with a marble effect background. The use of colour in this colour shows there are multiple, bright colours that contrasts with the target audience when you think of a Pop genre magazine. The bright, happy colours imply that there is going to be a popular, positive vibe from just looking at a image. There was once a saying to describe an image a picture can paint a thousand words. A way to improve the mise-en-scene of the image would be to include more appearance and costume maybe of a person for instance holding or animate to pretend to eat the Haribo, this maybe more in character. Also that around the image I had some how managed to get a slight pink tinge to it, next time I would try to get rid of this extra, to give a slightly more of a better image.

Here is a very important image that is related to the magazine, as I have used this image as a trademark sign throughout my magazine. It has its own uniqueness about it as it is the only image that is used on every page of the magazine. Also this image relates to Haribo, as this is a Haribo love heart. The type of shot used to take this image would be a medium close up shot as this shows the whole of the prop that is used. For example if this was a full close up shot then there would be no background colour shown in the shot. The angle that the image was taken again was of a straight on angle. As then this would convey an more easier way to identify the image especially as I have featured it throughout. If the image angle was taken in a slightly obscure angle then some of the young target audience may find it hard to distinguish the shape of the love heart. The mise-en-scene of this image suits appropriately with the publication, as love hearts can be really well associated with type of essence that relates to a pop magazine. One way that love hearts could be related to Pop could be through the lyrics used in Pop artists singles that they released. So the love hearts could symbolise a key prop to the mise-en-scene. The use of colour that is featured shows that the colour red shows that its bright and powerful to show that it can attract the target audience to take an interest in the photo. The background colour could of been vastly improved on photoshop by making the image brighter and possibly having a more plain background. The colour now of the background could be described as 'musty'.
I selected this image as an original copy of another image that is used in the magazine. It has been altered via Photoshop. This original image has taken as a half- full length shot. It shows only half of the body, so this is why it is only a half-length shot. The angle I chose to take this image was again still a straight on shot but with a difference. The difference being that the main focus of my image is quite far away from the camera lens. Although the person in the focus of the image is in the centre, the wood prop shows a sort of path that leads the up to focus on the person. This effect shows that the image was taken eye level with the base of the photo. The mise-en-scene of this image is very unique compared to my previous images shown in this blog. The main prop here is the wooden bar that rises upwards towards the centre of the image. Also the use of the person's hand on the wooden bar is shown there to create this feature of her to reach out towards the camera lens. This shows that she maybe be searching for something. This feature works successfully as April Jones is a newly discovered artist that is searching to be a successful recording artist. The facial expression on her face implies that she is expressing a happy, but shocked face. The shock would imply that she maybe still in a state of shock from winning the talent show The X Factor. The use of colour here in this image would be that the gold/brown colour of the wood shows it is unique compared to the normal clothing worn by April Jones. As the grey colour on her cardigan just really blend in with the image. A change maybe that I could of improved the image by to possibly discard of the unnecessary background that is featured, so this would be less of a distraction to the main focus; such as the poster and doorway.

Here is the edited Photoshop image of the previous image that is featured above. This image will be the main focused image that will be used in my double page spread. For this photo I have chosen to change the framing shot to a medium close up as then the target audience would more easily focus on the image. Also the angle of the image is still taken as a straight shot, the same as the original image, so this wasn't edited. The mise-en-scene of the image has been edited by the use of colour. As this version of the photo has a raspberry pink background colour. This colour reflects off the other colours used on this page, such as the grey off of the cardigan. The raspberry pink, is a bold, bright background colour that represents Pop as they use strong, bright colours that create a positive vibe, which Pop uses to advertise there genre of music. Also the bright, positive colour, could be used to brighten up the target audience day by reading an article or interview by there favourite artist. The colour and the shape of the image are the only changes to it. The shape of the image was changed to help focus on more detail, so the version is smaller, this means the photograph has been cropped. With the image made smaller if gives the appearance of April Jones to be largely more focused on focusing her attention towards the camera lense. A way I could of improved this photoshopped image could be to enhance the hand reaching towards the camera with maybe outlining the hand to emphasise it.
This image here I chose was the original version of the image that I have created below. The type of shot taken here was a long shot. It shows the whole of the body of April Jones that is featured. Even though the image shot is a fair distance away from the camera lense, you can see clearly the person's facial expression, concerntration and attention onto the camera lense. The angle that the photo was taken was a high angle shot it shows that April Jones is being intimidated by the camera, but the pose she takes implies that she is slightly in control even though the camera is above her. The expression is cheeky but mysterious being controlling as showing a 'who knowns' impression by not knowing what she might do next in the photo shoot. The costume that April is wearing is appropiate for the Pop magazine image. As the floral pink detail on the scarf shows a positive, happy, calm implication. Also the bright colouring of the scarf shows a complete contrast with the rest of the costume being fair dull, dark colouring. The background in this image has no relation towards April as she is the winner of the X Factor and she is standing outside of a college classroom. So when I edit this image on photoshop I will edit the background so then it will either be neutral towards April or show some kind of relationship between the two. Also the detail in the background could be improved by being at least tidied up.

This image here will be used as one of the images on my double page spread in my magazine. I edited this photo on photoshop. The type of framing I used was a long/medium close up shot so then the target audience would easier be able to see the implications. The angle used is the same as the original which is a high angle shot, which is shown April in control as she is about to approach walking towards the camera lense. The theme of the two images that I will be using on the double page spread are both wanting to reach out to the camera lense. I think that my implication for this is that April Jones is a brand new artist that is reaching out to the world to have a glorious career in the near future. The mise-en-scene of this image has changed as the background is now a block colour, which relates to April and Pop Viva as the bright colour contrasts with the costume worn also the colour is bright which featured many times in Pop magazines. Also the stair banisters are used to show a more life like approach that April is just about to the climb the stairs, this has an implication towards her as this could mean her about to climb the stairs of success and stardom. Also I think the only way I could improve the mise-en-scene to feature a prop. Such as a floral hairpiece in April's hair that could match her scarf that she is wearing. I think it would break up the dark colouring of her dark brown hair and grey cardigan.

Fonts

Fonts

For my Pop magazine I based my mast head font on the design of Top of the Pops magazine so then it would reflect where I got the idea from, also this would be a good source of research into the type of font used in the Pop genre. The rounded lettering is sans-serif and this shows that there is a softness to Pop, so I feel my fonts should also be Sans-serif to link in and follow the trend for my magazine. This font is unique as the lettering doesn't fully link together like most sans-serif font.

I researched the Smash Hits! font to give me an idea who to chose my font that I wanted for my mast head on the front cover. The lettering in this font is joined together in lower case, also the lettering is sans-serif as there are not serif's on the end of the lettering. Comparing the Smash Hits! font with my masthead font 'Cheri' there are similarities as all of the lettering is presented in lower case.

I have chosen this font as it symbolises what the appeal I am trying to suggest for my music magazine. I chose the font for my masthead. The name of this font is Cheri. I discovered the font on the font website http://www.dafont.com/. The love heart shaped in the dot part of the 'i' makes this font unique as I am using love hearts a key symbol and trademark for my magazine. The type of font is sans-serif so the lettering doesn't have the small flicks at the end of the lettering known as serifs. I think this font will appeal to my target audience as young girls love love hearts as they have a fascination with them. So when they see love hearts featured in the magazine this will interest them and encourage them to purchase the magazine. This type of font is different to the type of font that I used for the preliminary task as the type of font was more Serif and a lot more square and bolder. A way I was considering manipulating the font was added some photos of love hearts around the lettering to link in the love hearts already included in the text. The images could be saved as a jpg, with the font included in the jpg and possibly saved separately when the added into the magazine encase the font doesn't save properly. Also the colour of the font might be manipulating depending on what I decide as the colour scheme for my front cover. Instead of the font colour black and white maybe manipulate it to red and black.

I chose the font akaFrivolity as it suits the description of what sort of font I would like to consider for the key part of my main flash. I also identified this on http://www.dafont.com/. The type of font is serif as the ends of the letters flick out at the edges. So then I think this font would be suitable for my target audience as the type of lettering is all curly and spirally. Also the time of year 'winter' is very festive and lots of fonts around in the winter have lots of swirls and spirals. This font would be suitable for the time of year as the magazine would be in January. The month of January is still a very festive time of year. A way I might manipulate the lettering would be enlarging it and maybe changing the angle, so it isn't directly straight facing towards the audience. A slight angle could give off an more edgy effect to the page. This may appeal to the target audience by making the style of the curly font more of an excitable reaction from the spirals being tilted on an angle.

I chose this font to presented on my front cover. It will be displayed in the little sub-heading above the main flash. I feel that this font is appropriate for this sub-heading as the sans-serif style of writing is will catch the eye of the target audience. As the bullet effect in the font will add some sort of shock for a Pop magazine which is not expected. The shock on the front cover is needed to convey the "VIVA EXCLUSIVE" of the main flash article that will be featured in the magazine. I discovered this font on http://www.dafont.com/ so for a future reference it would be for easy access if ever wanting to download that font.

This font here Serif I have chosen to be featured on the front cover of the magazine. It will be featured in two different areas. Firstly used for two main cells that show Album Releases and Haribo as a free gift. Then also it will be presented on the subhead that supports the main flash. The type of lettering that "Serif" is, is partly obvious as the name of the font is the giveaway. The lettering is serif as there are structured details at the end of the stroke of the lettering, which is known as the serif. In my magazine I would manipulate it by changing the font size to be decreased, also change the colour of the font, if it is featured on different parts on the same page. So this effect may disguise using this font twice one page. Also the different colours might imply the sort of effect it might have on the page.

This font here I have chosen is Arial, I had discovered this font off of Microsoft Office. I have chosen to use this font as I feel it is basic, and would be very useful to be used on my double page spread. As the more basic font that is used to write out an interview, the more easier it will be for the target audience be able to read the font. Also when reading an interview it is crucial for using Sans-serif lettering, as then it would be harder to understand with Serif lettering.

I chose the Bellerose font from the font website http://www.dafont.com/, I chose it as I felt that it would be suitable for my Contents Page masthead, as the lettering of 'Contents Page' is really suited in this font when spread out across the page. The font looks far too elegant and upper class but it very appropriate for a Pop magazine contents page. The type of font is sans-serif as there are no serifs present on the font.

This font that is presented on the left hand side of this page is called Century Gothic, I have selected it from Microsoft Office which is a program that is installed on the computer. I chose this to be used on the title of the double page spread, so this will accompany the font 'Cheri' that is used to show the name of the cover star in a different font to emphasise that the cover star is important. This type of font is informal as the lettering is Sans-serif; this is appropriate for this type of double page spread interview.

Flatplans

Front Cover Flatplan

This flatplan is of my official frontcover for my music magazine. The mast-head is 'Pop Viva', I think it will appeal to my target audience as they can relate to the word 'Pop' and the word 'Viva'. Straight away my target audience instantly know what music genre this magazine is all about. Secondly they may recognise the word 'Viva' from the fairly new music channel called Viva. It features the latest songs from Pop artists. So my idea was to place them together. I have presented it in my flatplan in a central position at the top of the page so that it is easiest to read there. Also the size of the font is about normal size; not to be large, not to small. The layout of the mast head has central position to imply what magazine this is.The main flash is the cover story position in the centre of my page. It is focusing on The X Factor, the main flash says in bold lettering 'X Factor Special'. Also I chose to write 'VIVA EXCLUSIVE!' because the article as the main flash is the only magazine to have all the information on this topic. Using just Viva, instead of the whole magazine's name it shows a possible nickname for the magazine being much more recognisable. The font used for 'VIVA EXCLUSIVE' is very bold and in capital letters show that it is important new and needs to notify the audience immdiately. Also the lettering will be san-serif even with the capital lettering. For the words 'X Factor' i used san-serif lettering that isn't traditional serif it is bold, and going to be vibrant to draw the attention to the target audience. I used different lettering for 'Special' as the time of your had just past christmas as still in a winter, festive mood and spirals represent this with san-serif.The main sells are positoned down both sides of the magazines. The first one is positioned on the left-side about a third of a way down the page it is called 'Viva's New Shows'. I chose this as a main sell as it gives publicity for Viva the music channel and it may encourage the target audience to read Pop Viva and also watch Viva the music channel. If the reader follows on in the magazine then they might be interested more into the magazine. The next main sell is a free gift that is printed on the front of the magazine. The gift is a free little bag of haribo. I presented it as a main sells as in the actual magazine it could be a little article why the Pop Viva readers get a free gift. The font it includes a exclamation point as a free gift is rare and is an exciting point. On the right side of the page is the another main sell it is parallel in line with the first main sell. It boldly says ' New Albums Release 2010 *Christina Aguilera *Eminem *Amy Winehouse. This is a huge selling point for the magazine as it gives the latest information on the latest album releases and most of the target audience are interested when there favourite artists are releasing a new album. This main sells is positioned here as it is a key selling point and more easier to read on the outside of a page rather on the otherside of the page. My last main sell is an image of my pretend superstar know as 'Connor James'. His image is presented here as it gives the target audience an immadiate recognition of who Connor James is. My target audience may be a bit young to recognise just a name of an artist so an image helps out hugely. Then the font I have used is just stating 'Connor James Interview'. The plain use of language is enough information for the reader to attract them to buy and read the interview inside. On the frontcover of this flatplan I feature a strap line at the very base of the page. This lists some of the other key features that are feature in the magazine. It says 'Posters,Songwords, Tour Dates, Prizes. The font of the strapline will be in sans-serif as it then follows the theme of the frontcover with all the fonts in sans-serif, with different variations. The different features that are featured are separated with a symbol inbetween. The symbol that is used is a heart shape, infact when I present my photos in my photo blog, I will explain the heart-shape symbol is actually heart-shaped Haribo! The barcode is postioned sideways in the bottom right hand corner of the frontcover page. I have decided to place it there because I feel it doesn't detract the focus of the other elements of the magazine. The barcode will be used as a tool for magazine publishers to see how many copies they will sell of there magazines. The date and issue is presented under the masthead it is there instead of a tag-line. I chose to do the second week of January as the first week of January may start in December. Also it will be issue 1 as it is the first issue of the year. The price of the magazine isn't actually presented currently on the flatplan but it will be added to the real front cover.

Contents Page

The main head on the contents page is the 'Contents Page' as that is the title of the contents page. The type of font that is used is sans-serif as the three full stops after it imply that it continues. This continies by the information that is presented below on the page. The main flash is the boxes that are layed out down the centre of the page, which hold the majority of key information that is featured in the magazine and assist what page they are on. The first box has a image next to it of the pretend X Factor winner April Jones, this gives a preview from her double page spread interview that is conveyed later on in the magazine of pages 4-5. The language that is used is to attract my target to read on. The size of the font for the page number is larger than the text so they can read easier the text. Some readers in the target audience are too excited about an interview with there idol they just want to know the page number so they can read on. The next box down is all about a brand new quiz for a brand new year. The little sentence talks about the new albums that are released in the new year. It gives a snippet of what maybe to expected to be tested on in the quiz. The last box that is layed out down the centre is talking about Lady GaGa herself talking about all her latest news. The target audience would be interested in Lady GaGa's latest news as her lifestlye and music is forever changing; as they would aspire to her music as being a role model. Her own style of music is influenced many different ways so they can find out where in the UK she is playing this year. Down the left side of the page grid there is a photo of the Pop Viva's logo that is used when they are trying to sell something like a trademark. It is presented here as it reminds the target audience of what the logo looks like if they wanted to tell there friends about it or something. Parallel to this photo oppisite is a Haribo heartshaped sweet that is a key symbol to Pop Viva magazine it is part of the Pop Viva trademark. The last main sell on the contents page is the little information box with contact information to Pop Viva if anybody has any queries or want to know more information about us. 'For more music news go 2 our website http://www.popvivamag.co.uk/ (not a real website).

Another Front Cover

I chose this front cover as my second choice for instants the first design didn't work out. Also I used it to show another design I had made up for a pop genre magazine cover. The masthead is runs the width of the page it is called 'Pop Sheep'. I called it this as my target audience can understand what it means; it has been cleverly designed. The word 'pop' instantly shows that the magazine is for the pop genre. Then the word 'sheep' is chosen because pop music is short for popular so popular music. So sheep are known to follow in large groups, and popular music is followed by large groups of people. So I thought logically and put in together and thought 'why not have pop sheep'. The type of font I would of used would be serif as the serifs on the ends of the letters flick out. The main flash is focusing again on The X Factor partly as the cover star is Cheryl Cole who is a judge on the show. The little sentence underneath is an interview on 'her thoughts on this years winner!'. This cover story is an exclusive as now other magazine with have this certain interview. The thoughts from Cheryl Cole will cement a huge interest to the target audience as she is a huge, young role model to young girls. She is like an idol to them. Her thoughts will play a key part as she has heard the winner sing live from the start, so a true expert! The font used on the 'C' in Cheryl is made bold and stripy to highlight a symbol of a sweet from a traditional sweet shop. The rest of Cheryl is written in an handwritten to font as if was written like a diary. The X Factor journey has been like a journey. The sentence underneath also follows the same style of font which is known as sans-serif. main sells are placed on both sides of the page. Firstly I would to talk about the sell on the left side of the page about a third of a way down. 'NEW YEAR, NEW STARS! Read on to find out!' This sell implies that 2010 is a brand new year for new stars that may appear in the next year who is going to be successful and who the new stars of the future are tipped to be. The other main sell is all about the latest news all Lady GaGa. The article is underlined as sheep! because that is a nickname for the magazine and it is links in with following. As pop music is followed by a lot of people and Lady GaGa represents some of pop music. The font that is used for both main sells is sans-serif as the type of articles are informally used. I have given this front cover a strap-line as it gives extra information about the contents of inside. For this issue there is only one piece of information but it is very interesting. '50 OF THE BEST GIGS UPCOMING! This information is exiciting as it instantly gives key information about the latest gigs that are coming soon. The type of gigs for this target audience would maybe be something like 'The High School Musical Tour' or something. I used a little image of a sheep on the strapline to symbolise the mini trademark of the magazine cover. The barcode is positioned in the bottom right hand corner of the page facing sideways up the page so that it is in the way of the elements of the main features on the page.
The price of the magazine is actually presented on this page as I forgot to put it on there. The date is apparent to the reader as it is postioned in a place where a tag-line might be. The issue is for Monday 11th January 2010, so very mid into the month of January.

Double Page Spread

The layout of my double page spread is presented as a landscape position on a A4 spread. I have presented two images of the same person on this page of the cover star. One close up and one full length shot. I used this to show the cover star from two different angles.
