Planning and evaulation of the article

In the post I will be looking at two different articles from Top of the Pops Magazine, which is taken from the genre I'm focusing on which is Pop.

Article

For this article that is taken from Top of the Pops magazine I believe that the target audience is aimed at the ages between 8-12. This article type is an interview that is interviewing the Jonas Brothers who are about to star in the hit film Camp Rock (2008). Also there is features of introducing some of the less minor characters that are going to be in the cast; such as Demi Lovato, Alyson Stoner and Meaghan Martin. In the main interview the audience is addressed as being the screaming fans of the Jonas Brothers, this implies that the 8-12 target audience are absolutely mad for the teen pop sensation idols. So they are addressed by there common interest which of course is being interested in the Jonas Brothers. The type of content that would be normally featured in Top of the Pops magazine would be the latest Pop singles that are about to be released, there is a huge majority of well known Pop artists publicising there new singles rather new, unknown Pop artists that are on the Pop music scene. Other content that would be commonly featured in Top of the Pops would be fashion tips for the girls at the tween age group, also embarrassing moments that have happened to the tweens in the real world they send in there moments via the post. Also there is quizzes and competitions about the celebrities in the Pop world. The colour of the magazine is important as it captures the eye of the target audience. The colour of the font that says "come to" is in written in Pink as this colour stands out and bounces off the yellow background colour of the banner behind it. This is important as this title will encourage the reader to acknowledge the bright colour and instantly read the article. Also the style of the font is important to the magazine's style as the style of writing needs to follow the same or similar fonts that relate to the genre of the magazine also to follow the font style of the mast head on the front cover. If you as the reader understand that the fonts and colours relate to your thoughts of the Pop magazine style then you will find it easy to understand why the bright colours are important to towards it, also the font. So the type of language in the article that is used has low levels of formality with words that wouldn't be found in an formal interview. Words such as "cool" and "dating" are informal ways of describing some of the questions asked. The reason the Jonas Brothers have spoken in these terms is because it make it easier for the target audience to relate as the target audience is younger and are more familiar with informal words. Also the Jonas Brothers tend to use exclamations at the beginning of a question being asked such as "No way!"This emphasises there excitement or lively actions that persist in their personalities. The responses that Jonas Brothers give in the interview are very, short, straight to the point answers, so this means that the responses are elliptical. To conclude overall the language in the Jonas Brothers interview is very informal but this is suitable for the target audience of 8-12 for a Pop magazine. So the approach they have is very relaxed and slapstick which the target audience are most familiar with at their age. So the 8-12 target audience will enjoy this article as it will appeal to them such as the article features images of good-looking teenage boys, who are huge stars all across the world. Another reason would be that the interview will appeal to them as they may find out when the Jonas Brothers are releasing the film to cinema or DVD. As the Jonas Brothers

Here is the first and actual draft of my magazine interview:

Firstly in my first draft of the interview I had chosen originally to use eight questions, compared to the actual interview I opted to reduce this number to seven. One of the reasons for this was I had limited space on the double page spread to put eight questions on. Also as I opted to do a Pop magazine, you wouldn't need as many questions, as the interviews normally consist of short, snappy questions, with fairly brief responses. Another main change I had made to the article was I had edited some of the answers slightly as they may not of made sense or that the new answer that I had come up with was more developed or suited a better response. Also in the actual interview that has been published I have tended to make some of the responses more brief to create a brief answer, also this will give more room on the double page spread for the photographs of the cover star, which is April Jones. I feel that the real draft interview is an improvement of the original, as the language that is written is much clearer.
